MAGRETTE Moana Pacific Professional BLACK

You know you’re in trouble when you get sent a batch of photos of a new model and you can’t even whittle them down to a reasonable, 10 or 12 images,

so let’s first talk about the photos, first – they perfectly illustrate what a desirable piece of luxury diving kit the new Moana Pacific Professional Black is.

It boasts a top-notch Swiss mechanical movement, a Sapphire crystal, brushed and polished steel surfaces and hand-stitched chocolate leather – sounds tasty, right?

So is the 645USD price tag. This is affordable luxury at its best! With each generation, with each new iteration, the Moana Pacific Pro is evolving.

The new ‘’Black’’ version is no different. For the first time – it is powered by a Swiss Made automatic movement, the STP1-11 with hacking seconds.

The STP1-11 is a 26 jewel self-winding mechanism with ball bearing, beating at 28'800 vibrations per hour, 4 Hz and with a power-reserve of 44 hours.

Its functions include: hours, minutes, sweep second, date, rapid corrector and stop second device.

On the outside, there’s a new bezel insert in brushed steel with a black DLC coating and engraved markers filled with BGW9 SuperLuminova BGW9.

Not only does BGW9 have a lovely blue glow, it is rated at more than 3x brighter than C1.

The Moana Pacific Pro is Magrette’s most capable diver and as such – its 44mm brushed and polished Stainless Steel case has the following divers features:

a screw-down caseback and crown, a double-domed - anti-reflective coated Sapphire crystal, and a –

water-resistance to 500m/1650ft enabled in part by a high-quality Viton gasket that was used on the caseback.

In addition to the following features, the Moana Pacific Pro Black also has a PEV (pressure escape valve) that protects the watch against pressure differences that can occur below 500 meters of depth.

I’m not sure why Magrette aren’t calling it a Helium Escape Valve? I guess, we’re just as unlikely to go Saturation Diving as we are plunging down to a depth of 500m! We like it all the same ;)
